The Government is to cut central funding for drug education, preventionand treatment projects for young people by 10 per cent this year and cutback on drug intervention funding by 11 per cent. According to thecharity DrugScope more than 20 youth drugs projects are set to close orreduce services as a result.
Martin Barnes, chief executive of DrugScope, said: "Millions of poundsare being cut without consultation and little prior warning to frontlineservices."
Frank, the Home Office-funded drugs information service for youngpeople, also has yet to receive funding for 2007/08. A Home Officespokesman said Frank's future direction had not been decided but addedthere was no chance it would be disbanded.
