Study findings show CAF engagement must improve

More needs to be done to engage parents and schools in the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) process, according to research findings from 24 local authorities.

The study, by the Local Authority Research Consortium (LARC) and the National Foundation for Educational Research, found that councils struggle to convince reluctant parents to talk to children's services departments.

Schools were also too often only "partially" involved in CAF. Senior school leaders and staff identified CAF as an "add on" to the daily work of the school. They felt they didn't have the time, capacity or resources to carry out the extra work.
