At present, the city has 16 children’s centres. In February, councillors voted to keep all centres open but reduce funding for them by 30 per cent or £2.25m.
The council has already made cuts of £750,000 leaving savings of £1.5m still to be found. So far the council claims it has protected frontline services but reduced central support for children’s centres.
