Staff at family drugs support centre to vote on strike

Unite members at a London centre that supports parents with drug and alcohol problems are being balloted over plans to restructure the service.

The ballot of the union’s 36 members at Lifeline’s Tudor Grove centre, which is funded by the London Borough of Hackney, will start in mid-January and closes at the end of the month.

According to Unite regional officer Jamie Major, staff are concerned they have been asked to reapply for their jobs, some on reduced salaries. He added that a Section 118 notice of the possibility of redundancy for staff has been issued by Lifeline.

Major said: "Lifeline is saying that there are no cuts or redundancies but staff are being asked to reapply for their jobs, in some cases with a £10,000 pay cut."
