
The New Horizons programme, which aims to develop the confidence and skills of pupils, while allowing them to gain a qualification in youth work, is currently running at North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury.
A third of the academy’s sixth form are taking Level 1, 2 or 3 youth work qualifications under the programme, which is being delivered in partnership with national youth charity Worth Unlimited.
Tim Evans, chief executive of Worth Unlimited, told CYP Now that the programme is proving popular and that schools in the Midlands have now expressed an interest in adopting it.
“Visionary head teachers realise that it can help students achieve,” Evans said. “It has been a welcome addition to the sixth form and informal education process at North Oxfordshire Academy.”
