Shift towards violent youth crime

The nature of youth crime could be shifting, the deputy mayor of London for policing has said.

Speaking at a conference last week Kit Malthouse said that statistics about crime falling could show a shift in offending behaviour.

"If the nature of youth crime is changing, my view is it is changing to a smaller cohort of young people involved but they're more likely to be violent," he said.

"That presents a different picture with different solutions needed from the ones we're currently pursuing."

Earlier this month the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, published Time for Action, his strategy on how to battle youth crime in the capital.
