Sexual health campaign aims for open discussion

1 min read Education Health
A new government campaign on teenage pregnancy and sexual health launching today will aim to encourage open debate on the issues between young people and adults.

Called Sex Worth Talking About, the ongoing campaign will highlight a number of issues over the coming months, beginning with contraception.

Featuring on television, radio and online, the campaign has been developed jointly by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Department of Health.

It is aimed at the 16- to 24-year-old age group and will not be restricted to post-watershed advertising slots.

Children's minister Dawn Primarolo said during the first phase of the campaign the aim is to improve young people's knowledge and understanding through open discussion about the choices they make.

"What we want to do is make sure young people are making informed decisions, that they are empowered and not coerced into feeling they have to behave in a particular way," she said.
