Sector leaders speak out over racially motivated violence

Youth work and children’s charity leaders have publicly condemned the violent incidents in towns and cities across the UK targeting refugees and asylum seekers over the past week.

Organisations including UK Youth, the National Youth Agency and Regional Youth Work Units are working together to provide guidance for youth workers working in communities affected by the violence to help them support young people and tackle misinformation spread online.

In a statement issued today, UK Youth chief executive Ndidi Okezie said: “The recent violence across the UK has had a profound impact on young people, communities and the youth workers supporting them.

“I want to express our total solidarity with our Muslim, migrant and law enforcement community members. We stand firmly against any form of discrimination, violence or hatred.
