A white paper on "21st century schools", to be published next spring, will look at how schools can work with external children's services to identify chldren's needs and help them access support. According to a consultation paper published today: "many schools remain uncertain about their exact role in early intervention: some schools feel they are able to identify issues, but do not always get the right support from other agencies to follow up concerns."
The paper will also look at how schools can provide additional resources to the community. Children's secretary Ed Balls said: "Schools are already a strong feature of our communities. We must make the most of that by ensuring that they can provide for those communities in terms of extended services and facilities."
