
The Pesticide Residues Committee's latest study found pesticide levels above the legal limit in three of the 49 samples of school fruit and veg examined.
But the committee's chairman Dr Ian Brown said the findings were not a cause for concern.
"The results show that the majority of fruit and vegetables supplied to school children either does not contain detectable residues or where residues are found they are in accordance with legal limits," he said.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said while some samples exceeded the legal limit, the limits are not safety limits and exceeded them does not automatically imply any risk to children's health.
