Salmon centre secures funds

The Salmon Youth Centre has secured 120,000 from the Mayor's Sports Fund, allowing its sports programme to continue next year despite the centre facing up to 80 per cent funding cuts.

CYP Now reported earlier this month that the youth centre was faced with severe cuts as a result of five of its funding streams coming to an end. Chief executive of the centre Mark Blundell said up to half of staff could lose their jobs.

But the money received through the Mayor’s fund will mean the sports programme can continue during the next financial year.  

Blundell, said: "We will work hard to ensure that our arts, education and general leisure activities for young people can also develop."
