Both Halfon, who has been chair of the education select committee since July 2017, and Gibb, have previously held roles at DfE as skills minister and schools minister respectively.
While neither have had their portfolio confirmed, it has been suggested that they could each return to their previous roles in a bid to support Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s plans to reform the education system.
Following his appointment, Halfon, who is MP for Harlow, wrote on Twitter: “Honoured to have been appointed minister of state at DfE.
“I'm looking forward to working with colleagues to deliver the Prime Minister's exciting education and skills agenda to ensure every student can climb the educational ladder of opportunity.”
