This represents an increase on 2008/09 when 4,771 of 5,308 offenders were released to suitable accommodation (89.9 per cent).
John Drew, chief executive of the YJB, said resettlement remains recognised as a major issue. "Despite a 19 per cent reduction in proven youth offending and steadily declining numbers of young people in custody, children and young people leaving custody still face significant hurdles in finding suitable accommodation.
"Initiatives such as integrated resettlement support and our resettlement consortia, in partnership with local authorities, voluntary services and custody, are making real headway towards addressing this, with better engagement across the youth justice services being the key to further progress."
