Review backs academy schools

Education
Academies are meeting the government's objectives, according to an internal review of the controversial schools programme.

Junior schools minister Lord Adonis told the Financial Times that the review, carried out by the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit, was an internal progress check on how well objectives were being met and how best to proceed.

Adonis said he is determined to expand the academies programme, with 50 academies due to open this year and at least 50 a year in subsequent years.
