Resettlement records must improve

A new report outlines issues that could affect whether young offenders are resettled into communities successfully.

Commissioned by the Youth Justice Board (YJB), the Audit of Accommodation Provision for Young People Who Offend, found that those who work to resettle young offenders are worried about the impact of the government's removal of the ringfence around the Supporting People grant.

"There is some concern among practitioners that the removal of the ringfence will mean a reduction in the supply of accommodation and support for young people, including offenders," the report states.

The audit also raised concerns that the case management systems currently used by youth offending teams do not allow staff to properly analyse key information on offenders' housing needs.
