The Terrence Higgins Trust is undertaking the 18-month scheme, whichwill involve at least 12 young people researching LGBT history over thepast 50 years.
Findings from the research will be developed into an educationalresource that will be distributed in communities to help raise awarenessand combat homophobia.
Simon Cordon, youth service manager at the trust, said: "Part of theproject will involve young people interviewing five former activists whoworked in their communities to stop prejudice.
"The young people will talk to them about what they went through and thetough times they experienced, which is really important because it is apart of history."
