Report underlines youth clubs' role in combating mental health problems in young people

Youth clubs can help reduce young people's chances of developing mental problems, according to an interim report published by Clubs for Young People and Young Devon.

The report Somewhere to Talk — Someone to Listen looks at research evidence from across the children, youth and mental health sectors.

It references studies including Daniel & Wassell’s 2005 report Resilience: A Framework for Positive Practice and Bradford, Hey and Cullen’s 2004 research What Works? An Exploration of the Value of Informal Education as evidence that youth work can help young people to develop resilience and avoid mental health problems.

It also quotes the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service Review 2008 that states that generic services, including youth clubs, have the potential to help young people at risk of developing mental health problems.
