Report reveals widespread discrimination against young people

A report revealing widespread discrimination against young people has been released by campaigners calling for under-18s to be recognised in the Equality Bill, which was published this week.

Making the Case, published by the Young Equals coalition, outlines the group's case for extending the bill to reach children and young people. Coalition members include the Children's Rights Alliance for England (Crae) and the Children's Society.

The report cites examples of discrimination including children being unfairly refused entry to public services such as libraries and museums, babies and parents being refused access to public transport and ambulance services failing to take children's calls seriously.

Mike Lindsay, Crae national coordinator, said: "Ministers say that there is no evidence of harmful age discrimination against children, this document shows this is simply not the case.
