Report finds 14 to 19 reforms are on track

Education
Efforts to improve education and training for 14- to 19-year-olds are on track, but face significant challenges, new research has found.

A report from public spending watchdog the National Audit Office has found local 14 to 19 partnerships have good support, but many are apprehensive about the future.

The introduction of diplomas, which have a wider remit than traditional academic qualifications, is one potential challenge.

In the report the audit office states that involving local employers in diplomas will be key to their success. But over two-thirds of partnerships reported problems getting businesses to sign up to provide work placements.

John Bourn, head of the audit office, said: "Getting these reforms right will be vital to the futures of many of our young people."
