Refuges struggling to support families fleeing domestic abuse

2 mins read Social Care
Domestic abuse services are struggling to support victims and their children - with research suggesting six in ten of them are mothers.

The Women's Aid Domestic Abuse Report, also found one in 15 users are pregnant.

The charity surveyed 49 domestic abuse refuges and services to gather data on 18,895 women.

With high levels of demand from survivors and their children, the organisations are concerned about increasing funding uncertainty and budget cuts.

Nearly one in ten refuges and one in five community-based services said they received no local authority funding in 2017/2018.

And 16 per cent of organistions said they were running children and young people services without any guaranteed funding, compared with 13 per cent who were unable to fund this dedicated support in 2016/17.
