Home secretary John Reid told reporters at the weekend: "The police tellme they like this approach for three reasons: it reduces lengthypaperwork for minor offences; it gives parents a direct financialincentive for ensuring children behave; and it gives the childrenthemselves an excuse in front of their mates as to why they cannot goalong with their gang's behaviour." Plans to introduce "sin bins" forproblem families and parenting classes for those who cannot controltheir children were also expected to be announced as were plans for anoverhaul of the state pension to help people who take time out from workto raise children.
