Pupils to carry out school inspections

Education
Young people in London are to conduct Ofsted style school inspections in a unique project designed to promote learner voices.

The pupil-led Edge Learner Forum, run by education charity Edge, gives young people the chance to advise schools, teachers and policy makers on how to improve the education system.

Schools will be ranked on how much respect pupils are shown, the learning environment and the school approach to learning and aspiration.

The young inspectors will deliver their findings in a report and make recommendations to schools on how to improve.

Andy Powell, chief executive of Edge said: “Young people lose their dreams too often because they are labelled and underestimated.  All our work within the Edge Learner Forum proves that young people can contribute a huge amount to the education debate and can help to transform education for the better if they are given the chance.”
