
Analysis of 67 reviews published between 1 April and 30 September last year focused on the theme of listening to the child. Previous Ofsted reports had identified this as a recurrent theme of serious case reviews.
The inspectorate found that in too many cases children were not seen frequently enough by the professionals and agencies did not listen to adults who tried to speak on the children’s behalf.
Parents and carers prevented professionals from seeing and listening to the child in some cases and practitioners were seen to focus too much on the needs of the parents, and overlook the implications for the child.
