Concern over the high media profile of issues such as knife and gun crime has prompted the charity to launch Youth Week in November.
This will promote the positive contribution young people make in their communities and encourage them to seek help from organisations such as the Prince’s Trust.
The BBC is set to be involved in promotional activity, which includes a Youth Week branded channel on social networking site You Tube.
“If we keep telling young people that they are layabouts, losers and junkies, there is a real danger that they will believe they can’t do anything different,” said Prince’s Trust chief executive Martina Milburn.
