The call comes in a Sutton Trust and National Education Trust report that says primary school teaching should get the same incentives as secondary schools.
It calls for the £10,000 one-off payments, already handed out to teachers taking up posts in some secondary schools in poor urban areas, to be extended to the primary sector.
Also the Teach First scheme, which offers support and training to high quality teaching candidates to work in challenging schools, should also be broadened out to include primary schools.
This would not only improve the standard of teaching in primary schools but would also encourage more men to take up posts in the sector.
