Plans for special needs school questioned by council

1 min read Education
Plans to build a special educational needs school in a business park in Essex have been criticised by local councillors.

The plans to convert offices at the business park in Wickford into the school for pupils with learning difficulties and special needs, have been submitted by Continuum Care and Education Group to Essex County Council.

However, local councillors are concerned that the business park site may not be appropriate for the school, which will cater for around 30 pupils aged between 11 and 17.

There are also concerns that the school may be unnecessary as there is already a special educational needs school in the area.

A spokesman for Essex County Council said: "Essex County Council is determined to provide the highest quality education for all students and is working to provide a new centre in Wickford for young children aged 9 to11 with learning difficulties and special needs.

"Continuum Care and Education Services have an excellent track record in doing this and have been appointed and are currently securing appropriate premises."

A decision is expected in July.
