Northcroft School in Newbury will offer 15 pupils, aged 11 to 16, a bespoke learning environment from the start of the new school year in September, it has said.

It is designed to help those with severe learning conditions such as autism and ADHD through specialist practices including equine therapy.

The school has been designed in an effort to combat the shortage of specialist schools in West Berkshire while raising national standards in response to the SEND and Alternative Provision Improvement Plan. The plan, published last year, proposed the creation 33 new specialist schools in England.

Students will be equipped with skills to enter employment through apprenticeships with local organisations including the Costa Coffee training academy.
