Lisa Lyons, who is currently director of children and family services at Stoke-on-Trent Council, will take up the role in February, Oxfordshire has said.

Lyons has nearly 30 years’ experience in safeguarding, statutory social care, youth offending, early help, special education needs and disabilities (SEND), education and inclusion services.

She has held the DCS role at Stoke since March last year.

An Ofsted Area SEND inspection carried out in Oxfordshire in July this year, found that “there are widespread and/or systemic failings leading to significant concerns about the experiences and outcomes of children and young people with SEND”.

Speaking about her new role, Lyons said: “I am truly privileged to be able to join Oxfordshire County Council as the director of children’s services. I am joining a council that is determined to make a positive difference to children and young people.
