Organisations to ensure London childcare places

Early Years
The Daycare Trust and company Firstcare Consultancy are working with London's local authorities to ensure they have sufficient childcare places.

The Government Office for London has commissioned the two organisations to help the capital's 33 local authorities to develop strategies to achieve sufficient childcare for specific groups such as older children, children with special needs and those who have English as an additional language.

They will also work on encouraging low-income families to take up formal childcare and help councils to extend the free childcare offer to all three- and four-year-olds by 2010.

The work will run until March 2009. Emma Knights, joint chief executive of Daycare Trust, said: "Securing sufficient childcare is now a statutory duty and we are pleased to be supporting London's local authorities to deliver high quality childcare for children in London and their families."
