Only two-thirds of young offenders report having training plans in place

1 min read Youth Justice
Just 60 per cent of sentenced young offenders reported having a training plan in place, according to a review conducted by the prison inspectorate.

In the report, Training Planning for Children and Young People, it states that training plans should underpin and "guide the management of a young person's time in custody and his or her transition back into the community".

But research supported by the Youth Justice Board (YJB) revealed that of the young people who reported having a plan in place only around a half were involved in its development while two-thirds were not allowed to see their plan when asked.

The inspectors said that the low figure may be attributed to the fact that not all young people are aware they have a plan, they may refer to it by a different name, or have forgotten they have one due to their lack of involvement with the process.
