Around three quarters say their costs have increased over the last year and more than a quarter are reporting “significant” rises in costs, by more than 20 per cent on average.

Groups responding to the survey also raise concerns about the impact of inflation on families. Around half said parents are facing mental health challenges and have been negatively impacted by rising energy costs.

More than half say they have signposted food banks and other support services to families. Meanwhile, a quarter have donated toys and books to struggling families.

The survey was carried out among 272 groups in March by the Early Years Alliance (EYA).
