Across the UK, 129,000 young people aged between 16 and 24 were facing homelessness last year, an increase of 7,200 on previous year’s figures.

The rise in young people facing housing issues is particularly prevalent in England, where the youth homelessness rate is one in 50 young people in this age range.

Across England, 112,500 young people contacted their local authority for help, an eight per cent rise on the previous year’s figure of 104,400.

The research has been published by homelessness charity Centrepoint and is based on Freedom of Information Act requests to councils in England and data from the devolved nations.
