Ofsted seeks views on changes to residential care inspections

1 min read Social Care
All providers offering residential care for children will be subjected to an unannounced inspection every year, under proposals being put forward by Ofsted.

The watchdog is seeking views on proposed changes to the inspection framework for children’s residential care providers. The consultation covers secure children’s homes, homes providing respite care, refuges, therapeutic homes, homes for children with substance misuse problems and boarding or residential special schools that provide care for the majority of the year.

The consultation comes as the government is revising the national minimum standards for children’s homes, which are expected to come into force in April next year.

As well as receiving feedback from professionals, the watchdog is hoping to collect the views of children and young people.
