Ofsted appoints three new directors

1 min read Social Care
Ofsted has appointed three directors, including a director of social care, as part of its organisational restructure.

John Goldup, director of adult's health and wellbeing at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, will take up the top social care job at the watchdog from autumn this year.

Goldup has 20 years experience in children's services and began his career as a childcare worker.

Patrick Leeson, director of children's services for the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames, has been appointed education and care director. He will also take up his new post in the autumn.

Richard Brooks, a senior policy advisor at the Department for Children, Schools and Families, has been recruited as director of Ofsted's new strategy department.

He was previously associate director the Institute of Public Policy Research, where he was responsible for the institute's work on education.

John Goldup said: "I'm absolutely convinced that effective inspection and regulation are key to driving up improvement, but I also know that they only do so in partnership with leaders and staff on the ground, with other stakeholders, and most of all with children, young people, and families themselves."

Christine Gilbert, chief inspector at Ofsted, said the new recruits would help the watchdog to have an even greater impact on raising standards.
