NYA considers funding Institute for Youth Work

1 min read Youth Work Youth services
Proposals for an Institute for Youth Work have been given a boost after it emerged that the National Youth Agency (NYA) will consider funding its creation.

The potential for an institute is being explored through the government-funded Catalyst Consortium, but funding for the work only extends to 31 October this year. It is understood that further government funding for the project is unlikely.

But NYA chief executive Fiona Blacke, said her organisation will consider financing the set up of the organisation “if it is necessary” and “what the sector wants”.

A decision on the future of the project is due to be made in the coming weeks when the findings of two consultations and wide-ranging discussions into the potential role and responsibilities of an institute are presented to the project’s steering group, which is made up of representatives from across the sector.
