NSPCC finds one in three young people feel emotional distress

1 min read Social Care Youth Work
One in three young people in the UK feels some emotional distress most of the time, according to a poll conducted by the NSPCC.

The findings came from an online poll of 1,200 11- to 16-year-olds. It showed that 32 per cent of respondents felt sad, depressed, lonely, worried, stressed, scared or angry most of the time. This figure increased to almost half of girls aged 14 to 16 (49 per cent), while only one in five said they felt mostly secure.

The NSPCC today launched online services to engage with more children. Children can now use the charity's ChildLine website to email their worries, chat to a ChildLine counsellor online, and support each other on a message board. They can also explore issues like domestic violence, gangs or bullying.
