
Steve Kay was replaced as DCS by the council's deputy chief executive Joanne Hewson after his departure was announced last Friday.
Kay, a former youth worker, will leave the authority at the end of November after a decade-long career at North East Lincolnshire Council spanning a number of senior roles.
The beleaguered department has been forced to defend itself after local news reports emerged claiming children on protection plans were not being seen for months at a time and social workers had high caseloads.
Despite a previous Ofsted inspection in 2017 that rated children's services as "good", a focused visit in March this year called for urgent action to address "serious weaknesses" in protecting children at risk of significant harm.
