Dari Taylor and James Plaskitt both say that the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Pilot, which has operated in their constituencies for little over six months, has not been abused.
Stockton MP Taylor said the scheme had led to 35 enquiries, 11 applications and five disclosures. "It is a sheer relief that despite fears of vigilante action, this flow of information has not been abused," she said. In March the scheme was extended across Cleveland.
Plaskitt, who represents Warwick and Leamington, said Warwickshire as a whole had seen 72 enquiries, 54 applications and five disclosures. "To safeguard against vigilante action those who are told are under instruction not to share the information; and so far the signs are that this has been respected," he said.
"This scheme is likely to comment itself for wider application," he added.
Last month, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith revealed that the pilot, which has led to 153 inquiries, 79 applications and 10 disclosures, was to be extended across Cambridgeshire, and Hampshire as well as Cleveland.
