
Matthew Reed has been appointed by the charity and will take up the role from May, taking over from interim chief executive Shan Nicholas.
Reed is a former member of the charity’s board of trustees and has previously spent eight years in senior positions at Christian Aid. He is currently the chief executive of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
The Reverend Tim Thornton, chair of The Children’s Society’s board of trustees, said: "At a time when things are increasingly tough for vulnerable children and families, strong leadership is more important than ever.
"The Children’s Society believes fundamentally in the right of children to have a say in their own lives and future, and with Matthew’s guidance we can be sure children will remain at the heart of everything we do."
