A raft of experts and charities have announced new programmes to help tackle youth violence amid fears there could be an increase in young people targeted by criminal gangs sparked by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Former children’s commissioner for England Anne Longfield is among experts who have issued warnings over the issue.

Announcing her Commission on Young Lives alongside Oasis Charitable Trust, Longfield warned there could be a sharp rise in exclusions when schools reopen next month following years of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Longfield’s commission is one of a number of recently announced initiatives aimed at tackling child criminal exploitation.

Here, CYP Now looks at the new programmes and funds created to reduce the number of children becoming involved in crime.

The Commission on Young Lives 

Anne Longfield and Oasis Charitable Trust say the commission will launch in September to look at both the scale of the current problem, but will also aim to "provide workable and affordable solutions". Findings will be published towards the end of 2022.
