New DfE permanent secretary revealed

1 min read Education
The former director general of the Deputy Prime Minister's Office has been appointed permanent secretary at the Department for Education (DfE).

Chris Wormald will take up his post at the end of March. He replaces Sir David Bell, who left the DfE at the end of last year to become vice-chancellor at the University of Reading.

Wormald, who has worked in the government department responsible for education for the majority of his career, said he is looking forward to delivering the coalition’s education priorities.

"I know there is a wealth of dedication and talent within the department and in the wider education sector," he said. "It will be a pleasure and a privilege for me to be working with colleagues both old and new on the full range of education issues."
