
Zahawi, who was responsible for the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine programme, has replaced Gavin Williamson who was sacked from the position.
In his first statement as children's minister he said: "I look forward to following through on this government’s commitment to level up schools across the country, ensuring that every child receives the education they need to fulfil their potential."
Former children's minister Zahawi worked for the Department for Education between January 2018 and July 2019 under Theresa May's government.
The MP for Stratford-on-Avon was appointed as minister for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in July 2019 and minister for health and social care with responsibility for the Covid-19 vaccine in November 2020.
