New civil society minister welcomed by youth sector

2 mins read Youth Work
The new civil society minister has been welcomed by the youth sector, alongside concerns that there remains no dedicated youth minister.

Baroness Diana Barran, a Conservative life peer, charity campaigner and former hedge fund manager, has taken on the role from Mims Davies MP, who has moved on to the Department for Work and Pensions after just eight months.

The post, in the Department for Culture, Digital, Media and Sport, is overseen by Culture Secretary Nicky Morgan.

However, the British Youth Council said it has written to welcome the new minister but also to "reiterate its concerns for the size of the brief which will include other responsibilities".

The charity claimed that successive governments have ignored cross-party support for the reintroduction of the role which has been vacant since 2010.
