National Citizen Service plan popular with public

1 min read Youth Work
Widespread public support for the government's National Citizen Service initiative has emerged.

According to a new survey by Ipsos Mori, eight out of 10 people support the initiative, which involves 16-year-olds doing six weeks of voluntary work.

Half of those responding went as far as to say they strongly supported the plans, while just four per cent said they strongly opposed the initiative.

The public is split though as to whether the scheme should be voluntary or compulsory for all 16-year-olds, with equal numbers backing each option.

National Citizen Service was one of the centrepiece youth policies of the Conservative Party ahead of the general election and has since been adopted as policy by the coalition government.
