Around half of respondents to human rights charity Praxis’s survey are subject to the No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) immigration policy, which prevents people from accessing welfare support, such as universal credit or child benefits, based on their immigration status.

Some 97 per cent of respondents said they were worried about the cost of living compared with 69 per cent of the general public, and three quarters said their mental health had been affected as a result.

The survey showed that half of those unable to access public support are relying on charities and foodbanks to meet their basic needs in comparison to just three per cent of the general population.
