Met launches anti-knife crime drive

1 min read Youth Justice
The Metropolitan Police has launched an advertising campaign aimed at young people as part of its drive to tackle knife crime in the capital.

Adverts pushing the message "Carry a knife and the consequences will follow" will be played on youth-orientated TV channels, radio stations and online.

The adverts will show how the decision to carry a life can have lasting consequences.

Commander Mark Simmons, head of operational activity of anti-knife crime operation Blunt 2, said: "This ad campaign is stark in its sombre message to young people about the consequences of carrying a knife.

"If you carry a knife you will be arrested, and you will be charged and appear before the courts.

"Knife crime remains a priority for the Met police and there will be no let-up in sustained activity to tackle this issue, as well as work to divert young people away from getting involved in knife crime."

A new anti-weapons website for young people, www.droptheweapons.org, has been launched to support the campaign.

Simmons said more than 1,900 knives had been taken off the streets of London since the start of operation Blunt 2 in May this year.
