London to improve methods for young people to report knife crime

1 min read Youth Justice
Improved methods for young people to report knife crime are to be introduced following a spate of stabbings in London.

The death of a 16-year-old boy in east London on 6 July took the number of teenagers murdered in London this year up to 14.

London’s deputy mayor for policing, Kit Malthouse, said: "We need to look at how we can improve in terms of third-party reporting, so more people feel able to prevent these attacks."

Malthouse said one area that could be developed is online reporting of people who could be carrying knives and promoting services where young people could pass on information without going directly to the police.

The death of the 16-year-old boy in east London came just days after teenager Zac Olumegbon was killed outside a school in West Norwood, south London.
