The association's children and young people board resolved to addressthe issue when it finalised its priorities for the forthcoming year in ameeting last week. Board members agreed that it should be a priority "toprovide the national political leadership for lead members for childrenand young people so they can effectively champion Every ChildMatters".
The board has commissioned the National Foundation for EducationalResearch (NfER) to look into the issue. A source at the association saidthe research had mixed messages about the effectiveness of leadmembers.
"It raised more questions than it answered," said the source.
So the board has commissioned NfER to investigate the issue morethoroughly.
"We've asked them to speak to more people, and analyse the stats more,"said the source. "Their brief is to research current capacity and typeof support portfolio-holders need to play the role effectively."
