The Lib Dems have pledged to fund mental health professionals in every primary and secondary school across the if they win the election on 4 July.

The £620mn policy would be funded by increasing the digital services tax, a levy on the £1.5 billion revenue made by search engines, social media firms and online shopping platforms.

The promise comes alongside research published by the House of Commons Library which showed that average mental health wait times for young people stand at more than a year.

It also highlights regional variation linked to waiting times with the average wait time in St Helens, Merseyside, being 444 days, whilst in Blackburn’s average is 16 days.
