It is no surprise to us at Livity that think-tank Demos has found that teens are more actively engaged and aware of issues than previous generations (cypnow.co.uk, 19 February).
Teens cannot be expected to care about issues they don't know about, but they are highly sensitive to injustice, so when they are exposed to such stories, they can very quickly become passionately and actively engaged.
Traditional news media hasn't done much in the past to reach out and communicate with young people in ways that make sense to them. But with today's social content landscape such as Upworthy, Viral Nova and JustGiving, they are being turned onto issues and sharing them peer to peer.
